Creating Content Buckets

A content strategy wouldn’t exist without the content!

When we work with makers on designing a content strategy, we encourage them to group content ideas into what we call content buckets, or themes.

Based on our experience in creating content within the Australian maker community for over ten years, we find the following buckets to be most effective in achieving typical marketing goals.

  • Brand Awareness
  • Product Promotions
  • Events and Markets
  • Inspiration and personal stories
  • Community content
  • Educational and informational

Generally speaking, you should mix up your content creation across these six areas, keeping in mind that the sweet spot for product promotion should be around 30% of this mix.

In other words, you should only be promoting your products approximately ⅓ of the time, in order to keep your audience engaged.
