Know what you should be doing and when in your maker business
Make Good Things Happen was founded in 2020 by Angela D’Alton and Renee Baker, the team behind D’Alton Baker Productions and Makers in Business Online Symposium.
The pair met in 2006 after Renee came across Angela’s online store Leeloo, a nurturing platform for Australian sellers of handmade.
As an emerging illustrator who lived hours away from Sydney’s cultural and creative centres, Renee was feeling isolated in her creative pursuits and seeking connection with like-minded people.
After striking up the courage to send Angela a message on MySpace (yes, we met on MySpace), the pair agreed to meet to see if Renee’s illustrations would make a suitable match for the growing collection of handmade products for sale in Angela’s online store.
The rest, as the cliche goes, is history.

Since this illustrious meeting, we have spent over 15 years working together within the maker community of Australia, including roles at Etsy and the Finders Keepers. During that time we’ve encountered the highs and lows of managing our own businesses whilst supporting 100s of independent designers and artists through their own challenges.
With expertise in maker business essentials from social media to wholesale, marketing to copywriting, design markets, online stores and day-to-day management they’ve got loads of advice to share with you.
